Can't Import MP4 files into Cyberlink PowerDirector - Solution

As a quite hot file extension, MP4 is widely used for saving media data and can be found in lots of places online or off line, which means, you may download MP4 videos from video sharing sites such as YouTube and Fox, or shared some MP4 videos from others, or captured MP4 files from GoPro camera. But the problem with MP4 is, when you plan to edit the MP4 file with Cyberlink PowerDirector, you may be able to do this, but may be unable to. So what's the matter? Now let's take a look at some frequently asked questions quoted below:

Q1: Importing GoPro MP4 to PowerDirector 12
"I have problem importing .mp4 files from Gopro camera. When i click Import media files and choose my video i dont get any error message but video isnt in media room?"

Q2: mp4 files from Flip UltraHD wont import into PowerDirector
I have a Flip UltraHD camera which uses .mp4 format files in 720p and when I try to import these into the PowerDirector v11 application it simply shows the progress bar for about 5 minutes with no activity, then states there is an error and closes the whole program down. Would like to get this working if possible.,. other file formats seems to import with no issues just the ones created on this this device do not.

Actually, this is due to the MP4 files codec: PowerDirector prefer MPEG-4 and H.264 codecs instead of others. If your MP4 files are not compatible with PowerDirector, it's probably because of the different codec in a number of MP4 files as Cyberlink PowerDirector(even the latest PowerDirector 13) might not support all of these codecs. If you're in such a situation, there is an easy way to fix the issue. Get a MP4 converter and transcode .MP4 files to MPEG-2, which will save you both time and trouble, and all you need is to drag the result videos for prompt editing. For this purpose, this article will show you how to convert MP4 to MPEG-2 for PowerDirector in detail.
